Jeremy and I get asked ALLLL the time (especially during pumpkin season) about our favorite places to eat and things to do/see in Oregon! I figured it was about time I compile a list of the best of Oregon! So here’s a few of my favorite places if you’re planning a trip to the PNW!
If you know anyone taking a trip to Oregon soon, share this with them!
Make sure you read to the end for an exciting giveaway with one of my all time favorite companies, SACKCLOTH AND ASHES!!!!
Of course, this is FIRST on the list… In my bias opinion, it’s the most magical place in Oregon. Plan your trip for pumpkin season 2017 every Friday-Sunday in October, or book a private tour anytime during the year >>HERE<< The private tours take you all around the 110-acre property! You get to see all the animals, the wedding area, the barns, the cowboy town, the castle, Noah’s ark, the wine cellar, the pumpkin area, the swamp fort, the tower of terror, and MORE!
In the middle of freakin’ nowhere!!! Make sure you have a car with 4-wheel drive! The drive in is about 1 hour on a very rutted dirt road, but the beauty around makes the time pass quickly. Bald Butte is one of the cutest little fire watch towers with it’s white and light green interior, giving it a cottage feel. These things are CHEAP to stay at, but hard to book! You gotta plan ahead;)
Same as Bald Butte, book in advance!!!!
If you’re into cliff jumping… this is your spot.
Rock Creek Tavern, Kennedy School, Grand Lodge
McMenamins is an Oregon/Washington chain of restaurants. Don’t be deterred by the word “chain,” these places are as unique and local as it gets! All of the restaurants are old schools, churches etc., converted into beautifully historic restaurants, pubs, hotels, movie theaters, and concert halls. For all you “atmosphere” junkies, you’ll fall in love with McMenamins.
Pacific City – Cape Kiwanda
A MUST SEE. It’s about an hour and a half drive from Portland, and make sure you stop at Joe’s Donut Shop in sandy on the way up! Explore Timberline Lodge in the summer or winter, and if the powder is fresh, get yourself a lift ticket;)
The classic Oregon Breathtaking waterfall. If you’re gonna hike it, go all the way up!!
The Columbia River Gorge
Multnomah Falls (along with many other falls) make up the beautiful Columbia River Gorge. Punchbowl falls is another one of my favorites (good for cliff/waterfall jumping too!) There are tons of hiking trails around the falls too! OneontaFalls is incredible in the summer if you’re up for a wet hike;)
If you want to see the famous Haystack rock, Cannon beach is your spot! Amazing place to take photos! The beaches here are hugeeeee! Nothing like the Oregon Coastline.
Seaside and Astoria are the raddest coastal towns in Oregon. So many old historic buildings and lighthouses. These shipping towns just have so much character. I’m not sure if you can get to it anymore, but the original “Goonies” house is in Astoria!
The best cinnamon rolls in all of Oregon. This place is a bomb breakfast spot on the way out to the coast. It’s a giant cozy logging lodge! Surround the restaurant/lodge are tons of old railroad cars, water towers, and just cool old stuff to explore!
Some of my favorites include; Stoller, Purple Hands, and Sokol Blosser
On the fancier side, but Portland City Girl has unbeatable views of Portland, and incredible food/drinks! The restaurant sits on the top 30th floor of one of Portlands high rises.
Fun fact, Jer took me here after our first date! One of our first photos was taken here, see below:) Pittock Mansion is beautiful to tour the inside at Christmas time, but you can walk around the outside/backyard of this mansion (trails also nearby) and see the entire city of Portland!
80+ miles of forested hiking/running trails. For all you runners, my favorite running trail is by far Leif Erikson. It’s also the widest, but Wildwood Trail is great too in the summer when the leaves aren’t covering all the ankle twisters;)
Best coffee spot in Portland.
The largest independent new/used bookstore in the world!!! Located in the heart of Portland, walking distance from The Pearl.
Wooden Shoe Tulip Farm
If you’re visiting in the Springtime, you MUST go here!
The best to visit in the summer! Tons of river beaches. Great for day picnics, and bon fire nights!
Umpqua Hot Springs
Closed during the winter (unless you want to hike in pretty far), but this place is pretty unreal. Basically a bunch of natural hot tubs in the middle of the forest!
St. Johns Bridge
The most epic of the city of bridges. There is also a random piano under this bridge with some crazy artwork on it! Play away!
Sellwood Antique Stores
The best antique shopping in Portland!
Make your own pancakes at your table! They have gluten-free mix too!
¿Por Que No?
Hands down the best mexican food! The eastside location is my favorite!:)
Best of Bend
If you are a skier or snowboarder…. This where it’s at. And this winter is going to be the greatest yet! Bachelor just added a new lift, adding 635 acres to the lift served terrain, and making it the 5th largest ski area in the United States!!!
Deschutes River Float/Trail
Float it, or run along side it in the summer, and cross country ski/snow shoe along it in the winter!
For being so close to Bend, this place is stunning!!! So many hiking/walking trails. A great spot to sit by the river bend and watch the sunset. Also, an incredible spot for photographers!
Black Butte is a resort with an enchanting lodge, tons of places to bike, walk, hike, or snow shoe depending on the season. Also a great spot for weddings in the summer! In my opinion, better than Sunriver;)
You used to have to hike in a decent ways to get to this little gem… but now the access road allows you to drive most of the wayRecommendomend a 4×4 car though! The water is ICE cold!!!
This lake is the most jaw-dropping of all the cascade lakes because of it’s color!
This place is the best for canoeing, great camp spots, and you can see more mountains from this lake than any of the others! My favorite lake to spend the day! PC: Dawn Photography
About 2 hours from Bend (the furtherest out of the Cascade lakes). This place is particularly great for camping! The campsites are huge, and there aren’t that many of them, making this a more private and quiet spot! Plus, it’s so far out not many people have discovered this gem.
Tumalo Creek State Park
Great place to hang out for the day, sling your hammock, slackline, hike, or float the river!
2o-minutes outside of Bend! Easy 10 min hike!
Best place to CAMP in the cascade lakes!!!
About 2 hours outside of Bend. Oregon’s only national park!
Huge outdoor fire, great beer/pizza, perhaps the most popular brewery in Bend!
Great brewery with a huge outdoor area, lawn games, and food carts!
A heated outdoor area surrounded by food carts and serves the most popular beers in Bend.
Vibey motorcycle beer/coffee shop with outdoor area and food carts! New to Bend, but definitely check this place out if you’re in town!
Best breakfast and baked goods! great coffee and nice place to spend your mornings!
Breakfast/Lunch/dinner and place to work!!
Best FOOD in Bend! On the spendier side.
To all you fellow Oregonians, what would you add to the list!? Let me know in the comments!
If y’all don’t already know about Sackcloth and Ashes you need to!!! I know and follow a lot of immensely talented, wildly successful, fearlessly confident, and fiercely passionate humans. I am fervently encouraged by the example that these children of God have set for me, and for those in their sphere of influence. Glimmers of hope in my eyes turn into bonfires of expectancy, as I see the impact that these people are having on the world around them. They are sharing truth, giving grace, seeking justice, solving problems, connecting people, and spreading love.
My friend Bob Dalton, the founder of @sackclothxashes is one of those people. Bob’s passion for the homeless steamed from seeing his mom go through a season of being homeless, and he realized an unmet – yet solvable – need.
Sackcloth and Ashes sells blankets through a one-for-one model. If you buy a blanket, they donate one blanket to a local homeless shelter in your hometown!
Today I’m partnering with Sackcloth and Ashes to GIVEAWAY TWO BLANKETS (which is actually FOUR blankets??)! Their blankets are HIGH quality, gorgeous, and purposeful
